ORACLE System Performance and Tuning
This 5-day workshop is an intensive introduction into the complex topic of
ORACLE database performance tuning. The focus is on tuning ORACLE instances
and databases, not on operating system issues. The students will become very
familiar with powerful tools such as ORACLE Enterprise Manager and STATSPAK.
Students will explore buffer options, INIT.ORA configuration parameters, file
structure and allocation alternatives, latch/locking issues, sort tuning, and
much more. Students will be taught a tuning methodology in addition to receiving
many specific tips.
This workshop is a combination of lecture and hands-on computer exercises, with
the new ORACLE software. Every student will receive the latest ORACLE Performance Tuning Tips and Techniques Handbook written by Rich Niemiec, Bradley
Brown, and Raymond Lane. In addition, each student receives a notebook full of
tips and examples.
Who Should Attend
ORACLE database administrators, and those who want a detailed understanding
of how to tune ORACLE.
Prerequisites
The prerequisite is some training and/or practical work experience as an
ORACLE Database Administration.
Workshop Objectives:
- Configure an ORACLE Database Environment with an emphasis on efficient
performance (memory, CPU, and disk).
- Recognize and resolve performance bottlenecks.
- Use ORACLE tools (such as Enterprise Manager and STATSPACK) effectively to
investigate performance issues.
- Perform day-to-day monitoring of database performance.
- Resolve lock and latch performance problems.
- List the steps for performing any tuning methodology/benchmark.
