Introduction to ORACLE Database Management System
This 5-day hands-on workshop is an intensive rapid introduction to ORACLE
Database implementation and programming in a Client/Server environment. The workshop
is modular so that those with different backgrounds and requirements can
all benefit to various degrees. Students will learn how to code and debug
application programs which manipulate ORACLE databases via Embedded SQL in
either 'C' or COBOL. In addition to coding techniques the workshop also focuses on
design considerations, efficiencies, built-in functions, authorization, locking,
recovery, and utilities. Each participant will receive a textbook with numerous
SQL and application programming examples, plus a summary list of efficiency
tips.
Any version of ORACLE including versions 7.x, 8.x, or 9.x can be presented.
Who Should Attend
Programmers and programmer/analysts with a need to code ORACLE applications.
The first day is for those without significant experience working with some
relational database, such as DB2. Days 2, 3, and 4 would be of most interest to
applications developers, while Days 4 and 5 will focus on topics of interest to
DBA's.
Workshop Objectives:
- Define ORACLE Database terminology and describe the ORACLE Client/Server
development environment.
- Code and implement ORACLE SQL statements, database programs and PL/SQL
triggers, packages, and stored procedures.
- Perform basic DBA functions and application/system tuning.
