DB2 Performance and Tuning
This 4- or 5-day workshop is intended to provide the experienced DB2 practitioner
with "state of the art" information concerning SQL efficiencies, DB2
application tuning, DB2 system monitoring, and MVS/DB2 system tuning. This is
not an introductory workshop, but rather an advanced presentation which explores
the nuances, tricks and pitfalls of DB2 development.
This workshop is lecture only, with ample time provided for questions and
answers. Each student receives a notebook full of illustrations and efficiency
checklists. Several desk exercises are provided. Students are encouraged to
discuss their own database design and programming applications for
instructor/class critiquing. Where possible, actual production examples from the
client’s system can be used as vehicles for class discussion.
Who Should Attend
MVS or DB2 systems programmers, DB2 database administrators, technical
support personnel, lead programmer/analysts and anyone interested in improving
DB2 performance. The prerequisite knowledge would be a minimum of one
introductory course in DB2 and at least three months on-the-job experience.
Workshop Objectives:
- Exploit the power of DB2 more effectively.
- Optimize existing SQL queries.
- Use trace tools appropriately.
- Interpret reports produced by DB2 Presentation Manager.
- Alleviate lock contention problems.
- Determine from RMF whether system bottlenecks are negatively impacting DB2
performance.
- Choose MVS, DB2, IMS, CICS, TSO, QMF, and SQL features and options to
maximize system performance.
