System Administration for the Solaris
Operating Environment
This 5-day workshop teaches advanced topics in Solaris system administration.
The operating system will be Solaris 9 (SunOS 5.9)- Sun's implementation of
SystemV release4. The workshop is taught on a Sun Sparc workstation. The objective
is to prepare the student for the Certified Solaris System Administrator
Examination - Part 2 (310-015). Note: This workshop is also available for Solaris
8, 7, and 2.6.
Prerequisites
Completion of the Intermediate System Administration For the Solaris 9
Operating Environment workshop.
Workshop Objectives:
- Configure, control, and monitor network interfaces.
- Introduce the Client/Server relationship.
- Customize the Solaris Management Console (SMC).
- Install and configure a Solaris server.
- Enable 64 bit capabilities of Solaris 9.
- Understand the Solaris network environment.
- Setup event logging and use auditing utilities.
- Install and manage serial devices such as modems and terminals.
- Support the installation of devices using Service Access Facility.
- Administer disks and file systems.
- Create pseudo file systems.
- Manage swap space.
- Configure files and use commands to control and monitor hosts in a
networked environment.
- Describe RAID and the Solaris Volume Manager Software.
- Configure Solaris Volume Manager Software.
- Configure and use NFS.
- Configure and use AutoFS.
- Setup and configure CacheFS file systems.
- Configure WebNFS.
- Understand Role-Based Access Control (RBAC).
- Configure Access Control Lists (ACLs).
- Solaris Management Console.
- Describe the Solaris naming services: DNS, NIS, NIS+, and LDAP.
- Configure and administer the NIS environment.
- Configure NIS Clients.
- Add network clients and AutoClient support to a server.
- Use JumpStart to automate Solaris installations.
- Create a Flash Archive and perform Flash Installation.
- Use tools to monitor system and network performance.
- Configure System Massaging (syslog).
