HP UNIX System Administration


This 5-day hands-on workshop concentrates on the basic-to-intermediate level system administration in the HP-UNIX environment. Topics include: Devices, SAM, System Startup and Shutdown, The Boot Process, Security, Disk Management, File Systems, The Logical Volume Manager, Backup and Recovery, Printer Configuration, Accounting, Process Management, and User Management. The workshop provides participants with the necessary tools to ensure the well being of a Hewlett Packard UNIX system. Many lab sessions support the class lectures.


Who Should Attend

The workshop is intended for those who will be responsible for the operation and management of a Hewlett Packard UNIX system.


Prerequisites

Participants are expected to have completed an introductory course in UNIX or have had equivalent experience.


Workshop Objectives:

  • Carry out startup and shutdown procedures.
  • Use the front-end system administration tool SAM to add and delete users equipment, and partition disks as well as perform other administrative functions.
  • Use the administrator files and commands.
  • Check file system integrity.
  • Provide user guidance.
  • Backup and restore all or parts of the system.
  • Monitor system performance.
  • Establish and maintain network connectivity.
