Advanced Perl Programming


This 3-day workshop will allow novice Perl programmers to put together several elements of the Perl language to accomplish a significant programming task. Students completing the workshop will be able to put together complete solutions to real world programming challenges. This workshop builds a web based application with a database component. Concepts and skills introduced in this class will also be appropriate for system administration and utility programming.


Who Should Attend

This workshop is geared towards system administrators, webmasters, programmers, as well as network and system support specialists.


Prerequisites

Completion of Introduction to Perl Programming and three months of practical experience with Perl — or — similar familiarity with Perl with an interest in learning advanced Perl skills. Students must be comfortable with the use of arrays, hashes, and regular expressions.

  • Improve programming style and adopt Perl conventions.
  • Database access.
  • Transparent support of large files.
  • Using the Perl debugger.
  • Object-Oriented programming in Perl.
  • Introduction to useful modules.
  • CGI alternatives.
  • Approaches to application development.
