Introduction to Perl Programming


This 3- or 4-day hands-on workshop will take you behind the scenes of one of the most powerful Object-Oriented scripting languages, and teach you how to create Perl tools and web utilities. The goal of this workshop is to establish the foundation for using Perl for Web/CGI scripting, UNIX administration as well as data manipulation. You will receive extensive hands-on experience that will allow you to integrate Perl scripts into existing operating systems and applications.


Who Should Attend

This workshop is geared toward system administrators, webmasters, programmers, as well as network and system support specialists.


Prerequisites

It is recommended that attendees have a working knowledge of C language or Shell Programming and/or recent experience creating a program in any language.


Workshop Objectives:

  • Develop and apply Perl syntax.
  • Learn how to create and run Perl programs.
  • Examine Lists and Arrays and the process used to create them.
  • Understand the concept of Flow Control, including Looping and Conditional.
  • Learn how to open, read, and write data files.
  • Learn shortcuts and other hints to help you work more effectively.
